Double Down Madness Blackjack | Casino de Montréal
Double Down Madness Blackjack
You must beat the dealer’s hand without going over 21. With each card you receive, you have the option to draw additional cards or double your wager!
Good to know
Before playing blackjack, you might benefit from learning about certain notions of the game. These helpful tips and basic rules will give you a sense of what to expect before you get to the casino. Once you are at the table, don’t hesitate to ask the dealer any questions you may have. Helping you understand how the game is played is part of their job.
Taking a seat at the table
Blackjack tables can be easily identified by their green playing surface.
First, find a spot that isn’t already occupied. Although players are allowed to occupy several spots at the table, they must give up a spot for a new player if there are no other available spots. A special marker is used to indicate spots reserved for players who have temporarily left the table. These spots may be used until the absent player returns.
The initial bet
Place your money on the table. Never hand it to the dealer. The dealer will exchange your money for value chips, and then you may place your bet in the betting spot indicated on the table before the first card is dealt. Initial bets cannot be made, changed or withdrawn after that point.
You must respect the minimum and maximum limits indicated at the table when placing your bets.
The cards
Aces count as 1 or 11, face cards count as 10, and all other cards are counted at face value. A blackjack occurs when the first two cards of a hand are an Ace and a 10 or a face card, i.e. a two-card hand with a total value of 21, the highest possible score at blackjack.
The game
The dealer deals the cards from a shoe. Only the dealer may touch the cards. The dealer deals two cards face up to each player, then one card face up and one card face down to himself.
Your four options
- HIT: Draw one or several additional cards to improve your hand without going over 21. When a player’s first card is an Ace, they can receive only one additional card.
- STAND: if you are satisfied with your hand.
- DOUBLE DOWN: Wager an additional amount equal to or lower than all the wagers you made at their seat. You can double your wager one or more times to improve your hand, but without going over 21. This option is available to you after each card you receive, except if your hand is already a blackjack or a hard 21. When your first card is an Ace, you can receive only one additional card.
- TAKE INSURANCE: In this case, you may add an insurance bet equal to one-half of your original bet on the space provided, complying with the limits specified at the table. Then, the dealer checks their second card. If the dealer has a blackjack, your insurance bet pays 2 to 1. If the dealer fails to draw a blackjack, your insurance bet is lost. The equal-payment option is not available.
Winning and losing hands
Winning hands
- Your hand wins if its total value is 21 or less and exceeds the value of the dealer’s hand;
- Your hand wins if its total value is 21 or less, and the dealer’s hand exceeds 21, but without totalling a hard 22; or
- Your hand wins if it is a blackjack while the total value of the dealer’s hand is 21, with three cards or more.
Neutral hand:
- Your hand’s total value is 21 or less, and the dealer’s hand is also 21 or less or 22 hard.
Losing hand:
- If the value of your hand exceeds 21, you lose your bet; or
- Your hand’s total value is lower than the dealer’s hand, provided their hand doesn’t exceed 21, but without totalling a hard 22.
Special feature:
- When your hand and the dealer’s hand tie, your hand is a push: nobody wins or loses, and you take back your bet.
THE DEALER BREAKZ™ ADDITIONAL WAGER
Provided it is specified at the table that they can do so, a player may make a DEALER Breakz™ additional wager in addition to their original wagers or without having made an original wager, according to the specifications at the table. The wager must respect the minimum and maximum limits specified at the table and must be deposited in the place provided before the first card is dealt. It cannot be withdrawn or changed afterward. A DEALER Breakz™ additional wager is a winner if the dealer’s hand totals 22 or more, regardless of the value of the player’s hand. Otherwise, it is lost. A winning DEALER Breakz™ additional wager is paid according to the following payout table:
| Number of cards in the dealer’s hand totalling 22 or more |
Payout* |
| Eight or more cards | 250 to 1 |
| Seven cards | 50 to 1 |
| Six cards | 15 to 1 |
| Five cards | 4 to 1 |
| Three or four cards | 2 to 1 |
*Please note that only the highest payout ratio is considered when paying out a winning hand.
