Roulette
Predict on which number the ball will come to rest after being spun in the roulette wheel.
Good to know
Before playing roulette, you might benefit from learning about certain notions of the game. These helpful tips and basic rules will give you a sense of what to expect before you get to the casino. Once you are at the table, don’t hesitate to ask dealer any questions you may have. Helping you understand how the game is played is part of their job.
Taking a seat at the table
Roulette tables can be easily identified by their green contour and roulette wheel.
First, find a spot that isn’t already occupied. A special marker is used to indicate spots reserved for players who have temporarily left the table. These spots may be used until the absent player returns.
The bets
Place your money on the table. Never hand it to the dealer. The chips, called wheel checks, that you purchase from the dealer will enable you to place your bets on the designated spots on the playing surface.
During each game, you may bet on as many numbers or combinations of numbers as he likes. However, the bets on each betting spot must respect the minimum and maximum amounts indicated at the table. You must place your wheel checks on the specific betting spot of the table layout yourself, or you may ask the dealer to do so. You are responsible for the positioning of your bet on the roulette layout, even if you are assisted by the dealer.
Inside bets and outside bets
There are two categories of bets:
-
Inside bets, on which the player may bet on one, two, three, four, five, or six numbers with a single bet.
-
Outside bets, on which the player may bet on twelve or eighteen numbers with a single bet.
Wheel Checks (Chips)
All players in a roulette game place their bets in the same betting area. In order to eliminate confusion over the ownership of the inside bets, each player purchases wheel checks of a specific colour at the table and determines their value before beginning to play. This way, each player plays with wheel checks of a different colour. As a result, wheel checks may only be played at the table where they were purchased. They have no value anywhere else and you must exchange them for regular value chips before leaving the table.
The game
The dealer spins the wheel in one direction and the roulette ball in the other. Bets may be made until the dealer announces “Rien ne va plus” (no more bets). For a spin to be valid, the ball must complete at least seven revolutions without any obstruction. When the ball comes to rest on a number, the dealer announces the winning number and marks it on the layout.
Winning and losing bets
All bets involving this number win and are paid according to the payout in the betting charts. All other bets lose.
