War
To receive a card which ranks higher than the dealer’s card or to try to win the war when the rank of the two cards is equal.
Good to know
Taking a seat at the table
War tables can be easily identified by their tan playing surface.
First, find a spot that isn’t already occupied. Although players are allowed to occupy several spots at the table, they must give up a spot for a new player if there are no other available spots.
The initial bet
Place your money on the table. Never hand it to the dealer. The dealer will exchange your money for value chips and you may place your bet in the betting spot indicated on the table before the first card is dealt. All bets must be placed before the dealer draws the first card from the shoe.
Players must respect the minimum and maximum limits indicated at the table when placing their bets.
The cards
The ranking of the cards, in decreasing order, is Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2.
The game
The dealer deals each player one card and deals himself a card as well. He then compares each player’s card with his own.
In addition to his initial bet, you may place a supplemental bet (Tie bet).
Winning and losing hands
Winning hands
-
If your card ranks higher than the dealer’s card, your initial bet wins and is paid even money.
-
If your card is equal in rank to the dealer’s first card and you bet on a Tie, your bet wins.
Losing hands
-
If your card ranks lower than the dealer’s card, your initial bet loses.
-
If your card is not equal in rank to the dealer’s first card and you bet on a Tie, your bet loses.
War:
When your card is equal in rank to the dealer’s card, you may abandon and forfeit half of your initial bet or go to War.
To go to War, you must place an additional bet in an amount equal to your initial bet. Another card is dealt to you and then to the dealer.
The dealer deals one more card to you and deals himself a card as well.
If your card ranks higher than the dealer’s card, you win the War and you are paid even money on your initial bet. You thus take back both your initial and additional bets.
If your card is equal in rank to the dealer’s card, you win the War and you are paid even money on both your initial bet and additional bet. You thus take back both your initial and additional bets.
If your card ranks lower than the dealer’s card, you lose your bets.
